5 things to know before Hurricane Isaias

1Free Policy Summary available

Many Policies contain loopholes and tricks. Make sure you have someone check your coverage before you file. AAHOA has requested a free policy check for its members by Club Blue member Gauthier, Murphy & Houghtaling.

2Carriers only owe after you send them "Proof of Loss"

If you allow insurers to adjust your claim alone, they will likely miss damages. Minimize Time & Maximize your Benefits with a professional on your side who helps scope damages and creates a legal Proof of Loss.

3Get contractor bids, not estimates

Having a public adjuster may help you, but the best Proof of Loss comes from bids and receipts from real contractors. You risk losing benefits without a Legal Claim Manager.

4Do not hire mitigation companies without a legal review

Some mitigation companies claim they will look to carriers for payment. In reality, you will generally owe them regardless of coverage, and they can lien your property & sue you. Ensure you aren't overcharged, and manage the remediation process so you don't come out of pocket with a Legal Claim Manager.

5Do not call in too early

Evaluate damages first. Get a rough idea of how much damage. Call in the claim with an approximate number. Insurers "set reserves" early and assign money to a claim account. If their adjusters set it too low, the reserve becomes hard to change and the claim difficult to handle.
